Welcome to the Park!

We at “Amigos del Bosque,” local environmental NGO, invite you to our community for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for travelers seeking an awesome eco-tourism experience that blends the beauty of nature with a rare taste of local culture.

The mountain’s protected cloud forest makes up one of the most interesting and spectacular national parks in Central America that lies not too far off the beaten track. Hikers and backpackers, birders, cave enthusiasts, coffee aficionados, people interested in practicing Spanish and meeting friendly local families, or just about any adventurer looking for an unforgettable trip should plan a visit to Santa Barbara Mountain. What’s more, conscientious travelers won’t find a better way to contribute directly to the empowerment and livelihoods of rural Honduran families (not to mention the protection of the environment) than by participating in this ecotourism project, as all revenue stays in the community.

Families in the three villages along the outskirts of the park boundary (San Luis Planes, El Dorado, and El Sauce) offer bed-and-breakfast style home-stays and homemade food to tourists. Also, knowledgeable local guides are available to lead visitors around the community and on the trails as well as share their extensive knowledge of local flora and fauna.
